Lakshmi is one of the most popular tamil actresses in India today. Recently she starred in her first 3D film titled “Lakshmi 3D” which was released this month. Lakshmipriya Varadharajan, her husband and director of the movie, has spoken about the difficulties faced during the making of this film. He has given an insight into how his wife’s fear of flying caused problems during the shooting of the film. The film “Lakshmi 3D” is said to be India's first stereoscopic 3D film. The movie has been released in both English and Hindi languages. Lakshmi who was not aware about this technology, found it difficult to act in the beginning.Prateek Babbar who plays the male lead in the film, says that Lakshmi was very nervous before her first shoot. Prateek also said that he tried to convince Lakshmi that everything will be fine and she should relax as it is just another day at work for them. One of the characters played by Lakshmi in the film is a transgender woman. She was initially scared to play this role as she thought that she would not be able to pull it off. She even asked Prateek if the character will be alright as she didn’t know how to play a transgender person. Prateek explained to her that it would be normal for anyone to have doubts when they are not sure about the character they have been given, but now she needed to be confident and use her imagination so that no one would know about her performance being a bit off because of this character. The film was supposed to release earlier, but because of a fire accident during filming, shooting was delayed. Lakshmi even had to undergo a surgery after she fell from a high altitude during the accident. She was constantly worried about not being able to meet the deadline, but her husband constantly reassured her that they will complete it by May 14, 2011.
